Meet Stéphanie and Florian today in the Puy-de-Dôme, in the heart of the Auvergne volcanoes at Aydat. They played along with our offbeat interview to help you get to know them better.
If you were an element of nature, what would it be?
Pozzolan! This red volcanic rock is omnipresent around the campsite, not only in nature but also in the pathways, where it adds a touch of warmth. It makes for some incredible scenery as you hike from the campsite, like the Puys de la Vache and Lassolas, where you’re transported to the planet Mars in just a few steps.
For the record, pozzolan was formed when fragments of magma were ejected into the sky, where it cooled before falling back to earth! A great leap that ends up under our feet in Auvergne and often as a souvenir in the suitcases of our little campers.
If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be?
Without hesitation The Incredibles! We work as a family and form a super team with our two children, whom our campers meet regularly at the campsite. Our superpowers change with the seasons. In winter, we call on all our ingenuity and strength for the big jobs and small improvements. In summer, it’s our elasticity and speed that are put to good use to meet our campers’ expectations and ensure they have the best possible stay! And we don’t need any other superpowers to share a drink or chat in the aisles of our family campsite 🙂
If you were a recipe, what would it be?
We’re going to cheat a bit and choose two, because we can’t decide between our two emblematic cheeses. We’ll start with truffade, that delicious dish of potatoes cooked with fresh cantal tomme. The one we serve at the campsite is particularly creamy and delicious. The second recipe that made us fall in love with the region on our first visit was the St-Nectaire fondue! It’s as simple as it is good: a nice piece of melted St-Nectaire cheese roasted in the oven, served with cold meats and potatoes. A local dish that’s on the menu twice a week at our eco-responsible campsite.
If you had to describe your campsite in a song, which one would you choose?
We’re getting into an area where we’re not so good at – our musical culture is pretty sketchy! We’d say Happy, by Pharrell Williams, for the atmosphere of joy and good humour that this track exudes. It’s also the spirit that we want to instil in our campsite in the countryside and that our campers generally help to bring to life. Happy glamping in the volcanoes!
If your campsite were an animal, which one and why?
Princesse, our cat who’s also the campsite mascot! Between her long naps at reception or on the terrace, she greets campers as they arrive and begs to be petted. She also visits them on their pitches, mobile homes and lodges. But when you’re camping in the mountains, you’ll also come across hens, rabbits and even hedgehogs at nightfall!
Which proverb or expression best defines your campsite?
What we’re trying to build at our small, family-run campsite is aptly described as ‘what goes around comes around’. Our promise is simple: a natural setting in a small, quiet structure, relationships based on trust and sharing, a strong commitment to eco-responsibility… Little by little, thanks in particular to word of mouth, our campers come for this spirit and are themselves part of this approach. As a result, there’s generally a wonderful chemistry. Like meets like for the holidays?
To meet Princesse, taste the Truffade and above all discover the volcanoes, you’ll have to come to the campsite. To complete this foretaste and prepare for your stay with Stéphanie and Florian, you can visit the Les Volcans campsite website: www.campinglesvolcans.com
